How does the sys.dm_db_index_physical_stats DMV work?

September 13, 2010 by John Sansom Leave a Comment

Every so often whilst going about my DBA business I encounter a Blog post that is just too good not to share.

There are stacks of excellent resources available on the interweb and those that I wish to keep for future reference I add to the SQL Server Resources area of this site.

On this occasion, I thought it worth a special mention, as I have often wondered how this Dynamic Management View (DMV) works and no doubt other readers have too. Paul Randal is the author and creator of this particular Dynamic Management Function(DMF) and so quite likely knows what he’s talking about. Make sure you read his excellent and insightful Blog post Inside sys.dm_db_index_physical_stats.

You can find the reference to this excellent post, along with a whole host of other excellent Blogs/Articles & White-papers, filed under SQL Server Resources > SQL Server Administration.
